Get into Flow with Breath
This TOTW is all about getting into flow through mindfulness! Pilates is a somatic practice, meaning it's a movement practice that connects your brain and your body. MINDFULNESS is the sexy buzzword way of describing somatic movement. Same thing! Your Pilates practice is a mindfulness practice. Connecting to your body by targeting small muscles is mindful movement and can put you in state of flow. You know that feeling you have at the end of class when you can't believe 40 mins is already over? That's flow! Time stood still because you were so in your body and in your practice.
Mindful movement calms the nervous system by helping you tune inward and tuning out the noise. We're going to access mindfulness this week through flow and breath, and specifically by moving a little faster and linking breath with movement.
Hot Tips for Class
Dynamic Pace:
Sometimes (ok, most times) I want you to move slow and low and take the time to be super precise, That's important to build a foundation, but this week we're going to MOVE! I'm going to keep us clipping at a faster pace so you can experience flow. Follow along with me and be your own leader. Let my cues and your breath guide you. You're going to feel more grounded after 40 mins fly by!
Form
Even when we're moving quickly, try to keep your deep core engaged. After 8 months you're ready for this change of pace! See if you can feel just as much stability and strength while we move a little faster.
