A Pilates Appreciation Post
I’m having a Pilates appreciation moment! 🍑 With the Back-To-School challenge wapped and the 1 year anniversary of the PWA app approaching, I’ve been doing some major reflecting and am in my feels.
Making movement feel good has really become my purpose here in this online space. Every challenge or REFRESH that we do reflects that, as does the type of movement we’re doing: PILATES.
But seriously, I LOVE PILATES most of all because it feels so good! It’s easy for me to stand behind teaching it when it’s something I honestly want to do every day. Pilates makes me feel strong and stretched AND it allows me to keep doing all the movement modalities that led me here.
As a core-focused practice, Pilates is both bodyweight strength training and mobility training, making it SO GOOD for you to be doing every day, either as stand alone exercise or as a supplement to prevent injury for whatever else you love.
I’ve been a mover my whole life and so much of that is thanks to making movement fun from a very young age: from performing with the circus, to dancing professionally, to finding Pilates 10 years ago and immediately falling in love with it’s combination of effort and ease. Pilates gives me the athletic challenge and stretch I loved as a performer, but in a practice that feels amazing in my body, and that I actually want to do every day.
Recently I’ve been loving getting back into dancing (being humbled and having fun at Broadway Dance Center in NYC) and applying Pilates to lifting a little heavier (1x Weekly strength classes at a gym) and I know I would never feel as strong in these movement modalities if it weren’t for Pilates and the consistency of my Pilates practice.
As we wrap up this Back-to-School Challenge, I’m excited to keep the momentum up, and keep you feeling your strongest and most flexible, so you want to keep regular movement going. Set some movement goals for yourself, but most of all, find ways to make movement fun!
