Pelvic Stability with Obliques
This Thought of the Week is all about using your obliques to support pelvic stability.
We’re. putting upper and lower together this week, as the final piece in this month's stability puzzle! Most of our February focus was on using the glutes to support pelvic stability. This week, we're bringing in the obliques to work with the glutes to support and challenge pelvic stability.
Why?: Your obliques wrap around your waist, connecting the opposite rib toward the opposite hip. When contracted unilaterally, they rotate your spine and pelvis. When evenly-contracted, they create a brace to stabilize the spine and pelvis AGAINST rotation. SO you can use your obliques unilaterally to rotate the spine and challenge pelvic stability OR bilaterally to brace the spine to support pelvic stability.
This week, we'll be focusing on both rotation and stability, so you can feel the difference between the two and more actively CHOOSE when you're rotating and when you're stabilizing. Your pelvis will ultimately feel more stable, which means your abs and your butt will get a better burn as a result. Win Win!
